fishnwiz Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Anyone know anything about this particular saw I purchased for 8 dollars today while pickn???? I know the engine was build by Power Products of Grafton Wi...which later became Lausten and then Techumseh. Barker saws was out of Springfield Mo. Near as I can tell this is a 62 model Barker 100.It does run but is LOUD!! Added another saw today...I have issues! I could NOT resist 75.0030" Bar gear drive good condition! WHAT A BEAST!!}
GrincheyOne Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Mark, That looks a bit on the heavy side. $8 for a working saw, can't complain! 2, or 4 cycle? engine. Wayne
fishnwiz Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Wayne You weren't kidding when you said a bit on the heavy side! It has to be all of 30lbs. This is a 2 cycle saw.
JimDk Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Nice old saw. Check with the guys on The arboristsite forum. They might have some info on that saw. It is a rare bird for sure.
fishnwiz Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Thanks Jim. I did find a little info on it at that site. I was wondering if anyone ever owned one of these?
GrincheyOne Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Mark, If I had one of those, I'd build a mini bike around it! W
fishnwiz Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 Was already leaning that way..Great minds think alike!
ss74nova Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 The sears looks to be a 2 man saw. What a monster!
dhoadley Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 that blue one looks like a saw that won't take "No" for an answer!
fishnwiz Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 I don't know how a guy could use one of these monster gear driven saws all day in the woods. I was tired from carrying it to my truck!XX(
JimDk Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Some where in the neighborhood of 50 years ago, I owned a Homelite 5-21 gear drive saw. I cut a bunch of firewood and pulp wood for Hammermill Paper with that old saw. I don't know what it weighed full of oil & fuel, but it was heavy. The alternative was a one man cross cut. I blew the gears one very cold morning on a big frozen oak tree. I traded for a new Homelite C-5 which seemed to be a light saw in comparison to the 5-21. I still have the C-5 and it still runs. Somehow the C-5 has gained a bunch of weight, also. The point is, the older we get, the smaller and lighter our saws and guns become.
fishnwiz Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 You are correct sir! Thanks for sharing your stories. It sucks getting old!XX(

GrincheyOne Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Mark, My Pro Mac 610, w/ 24"" bar, weighs in at 20# My Remington 14" electric is only 6# Guess which one I use on a daily basis?
fishnwiz Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 If my ears are not bleeding, I am not using a real saw! Just kidding Wayne. I will most likely will ever use the 30" bar Bradley myself but would sure love to see a real man take out a big tree with it! I just can't help myself when it comes to older motorized items!..I have a problem!
JimDk Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Saws are not a problem. I have 6 in one metal cabinet. Try that with tractors. I have CAD ( chainsaw acqusition disorder ). There, I admitted it. Is that the first step to a cure?
fishnwiz Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 Then I guess I shouldn't be talking to you Jim Must stay clear of the temptations! |)
JimDk Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Your bleeding ears statement above explains why I am hearing challenged. Those old saws are LOUD. I got a couple of Homelite XL-12's at a tractor show flea mkt. and built one from the 2. Yep, it's loud. I will try to keep from tempting you. I only have a mild case of CAD. Some of the serious collectors on the Arborist site have over 100 running saws. I only have the 6 + a couple of wall hangers ( old Pioneer 450 and a Homelite Zip ). I do have a few parts saws sitting around.
fishnwiz Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 I also own a Zipp. I refuse to answer how many saws (Not in triple digits yet!) I have on the grounds that my girl might find out! I refuse to go to the Arborist site....it would be like a recovering alcoholic going into a liquor store!
JimDk Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Mark, I hate be the bearer of bad news, but I think you may have CAD.

dhoadley Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Like I tell my wife, I'm not collecting girlfriends or Corvettes. Sometimes that line works and other times it doesn't, and I never can predict which! Dave
