jbrukardt Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I have an opportunity to pick up what appears to be a johnson 14 loader for my sunstar (no brackets, would have to fabricate them myself, just the loader). Its 30 inches wide at the uprights, and I have three pictures. To see if it will fit on my sunstar. What would be a fair price to offer. Until i know the model im not sure if it came with a pto driven hydro pump, etc etc. I would imagine it has to, the flow for the cub 1250 off the hydrostat is way way too low for a loader. Lets assume it doesnt come with a pump. Some brief measurements seem to indicate it would fit just fine on the sunstar
Talntedmrgreen Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 If it doesn't need line or cylinder replacement, maybe up to around $800-900? That Johnson's are fairly common in the Cub/Bolens world. I believe the 14 is a bit more robust than the 10's and 12's JD and others used. I've read anywhere from 300-500# of lifting capacity, which is plenty for an SS sized machine. It will handle that with ease. The bummer is the RH controls, since your hydro control is on that side as well.
jbrukardt Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Yeah, i noted the right hand controls as well as a potential issue I think theyll work, itll just be awkward. I was thinking around 750 assuming cylinders are good. Glad to know im in the ballpark.
osenga Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Yes that is the Johnson 14 loader I have the same one out in my shop I'm working on it when I have the time. And mine was off the JD140H3 post pics when you get it and start the mounting of it and yes it will fit the sunstar just perfect. I just have a lot of fabbing to do with mine since it's going to be on a round hood once all done up

jbrukardt Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 You guys that have these, do they typically come with a pump? If not, what did you use. Also, any advice on how to inspect the cylinders to see if theyre good? Hoses are easy, just look for cracking, although with these hoses being painted... ehh. Cylinders i know the obvious (look for pitting the chrome, check for oil around the ends), but without it hooked up to a machine I dont know what would identify a bad cylinder beyond that.
jbrukardt Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 if i cant find a pump, i wonder if i could put one on the rear spline of the hydro. Most gear pumps run at engnie speed, which is what that rear spline is, and since its darn near impossible to find a pto, that might be a good place for it.
osenga Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 What I done with 2 cylinders so far is I have the subframe and the uprights mounted and the arm I just filled the lift cylinders with fluid in the raised spot and just capped them off and they have been holding there ever since (3weeks) or more now. And no leaks yet so I guess there good to go.
jbrukardt Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 shoot. Went all the way down to buy it and the guy decided he didnt want to sell Bad business.
