Bad gear noise when tractor first starts moving

Hi everyone,

When my tractor (B-112) first starts moving (in forward or reverse), I get a pretty loud and nasty sounding gear noise. It gets better/goes away once the tractor is underway for a second or so. I assume this is coming from the BGB. Does anyone have any idea what the cause would be? Is there any way to check it out without pulling it apart?

I don't (yet) have a manual for the tractor.

Thanks in advance!

Mine did that, and replaced the idler pulley, and it took care of the noise. It sure sounded like gears tho, but was a bad bearing on the pulley.

Oz- thank you for your reply. The last time I really looked this tractor over, I remember finding a lot of play in the idler pulley bearings. I guess I never thought this could be the source of the noise.

Anyone have a good source for the pulley? Would Sandy Lake have it?

Thanks!!!!
