Sorry guys, searched the forums and can't find what I am looking for, although I know it has been discussed. Are the BGB's from a 3400H series and a 7100H series, interchangeable? If so I can repair the one I just picked up. A 3415H with 48" deck, 42" blower, weights, chains, front counter weight, electric lift and a good runner. But the BGb gears are junk.

I don't know 100% about the internal components, but I think they are.

I know you can use either gearbox in either tractor. Main difference is the end of the pto side of the crosshaft. The older one has a smaller diameter threaded end and flanged lock nut. The newer one has threads the full diameter of the shaft with a large lock nut.

Yes, and that shaft Sam is talking about is NLA. They all use the 3/4-16 threads now. THE BGB`s are the same except for the RBT with variable speed.

What is the going price to repair a BGB these days? I have 1 of each laying around but haven't looking into the parts lists.

My last bevel gear box cost $125.00 It came with some options however. It had the "tractor and engine included option". ^

If everthing is replaced with new parts it is over $400.00 depends on what is being replaced.

400...wow...that's alot of coin!

Yeah at first, but they will last 30 - 40 years if properly maintained and not abused. So, it is pretty cheap. Not many 30 - 40 year old MTD`s and AYP tractors out there.
