Oil capacity

Recommended Posts

I just serviced my Simplicity Citation. I have taken it to a dealer in the pastfor service, but I figured why pay someone to do what I can do myself. The 21hp Vanguard engine calls for 57oz of oil, I drained it changed the filter and put 1qt in and checked the dip stick and it was almost full. I added more oil waited and rechecked and it registered full, I put about 40oz in it total. I ran the engine for a couple min and the let it sit before checking oil and it is registering full. Any input?

are you supposed to measure oil with dip stick screwed down or setting on top.

sometimes it depends on how dipstick is made

also do you have any idea of how much oil you drained out?

I like to put in as much oil as called for

whether it is in lawn mower or car.

Dipsticks are not accurate

On most of my older engines I cannot fit in what they call for...can become quite an oily smelly mess if overfilled. On something newer, I trust the stick...can't say I've ever measured.

My neighbor had a problem like that, he called me over to check

it out. He pulled the drain plug but left the fill plug in and

it formed a vacuum and wouldn't drain completely.

Took out the filler plug and drained it down.

Could this be your problem?
