mech123 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 just wondering if i can put a magnetron on this briggs engine and get rid of the points and condensor....he model of engine is 243431-0196. the parts list does show a magnetron coil but after date code 81 i think.
RayS Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Yes, if the flywheel is sent back to Briggs to be repolarized. You ship to them the service is free. With this there is no need to have it repolarized. Stens Mega Fire II or Nova II are the same.
marty22877 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 with those you essentially just have the wire that goes to the points go to the megafire/nove and then ground that, correct?
marty22877 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 perfect, do you have a part # or link for it? And on a briggs i'm assuming a negative ground.
timflury Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Assuming the coil is good, I would go Rays route and use the Megafire. You don't need to pull the engine to make the upgrade. If the coil is bad, The part number for the Magnetron upgrade kit is 398811. You will get the new coil and the special key that is needed when you reinstall your flywheel. The address in the link is still good. http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=127515&SearchTerms=menomonee
