Brent_Baumer 5 Posted January 11, 2002 IF the 38" tiller uses the same pulleys as the 36" tiller you're in for price shock and you'll pretty much at least have to buy the bracket for the double idlers from the dealer. I ordered the bracket and double idlers a few weeks ago from my dealer. He quoted me $30. Not too bad - I thought. Went to pick them up and found he priced and ordered the single pulley and bracket that keeps the belt from rubbing the side mounted hydro filter. The bracket was something like $60, the idler over the rear lift shaft was around $50. I don't remember the cost of the other idler and small "belt keeper" bracket but the whole setup was about $150 plus the original hydro filter idler for a total of $180. I posted a want ad for used stuff and was able to save a lot. The bracket would be difficult to make yourself unless your are pretty skilled and have steel bending and welding equipment as well as one to copy from. No way you're gonna find a pulley with a 3/4" hole in it to fit over the shaft either so you'll have to come up with another solution if you decide to make it yourself. Again, this is all assuming the 38" tiller uses the same idler setup as the 36". I looked at some pics of the 38" but all I could see were the belt guards so I couldn't tell. DanBov 0 Posted January 11, 2002 I just purchased a 38" Heavy Duty tiller for my 7117H. I do not have the pulleys in between the PTO and the large tiller pulley. Do they sell a kit containing these parts or do I have to buy them all separately .
automan 0 Posted January 12, 2002 I also had the same problem with a 36" tiller I traded for. I had a machine shop take a piece of 1/2 I.D. round stock, bore a 3/4 hole in one end and tap 5/8 threads into the other. I took a 1/4" X 1-1/2" X 5" piece of steel and welded it to hold the upper flat idler. I tapped a 3/8 hole in the 3/4 end a put a set screw. I used a V-belt idler and bolted it to the threaded end. It worked like a champ. travis
