On a briggs starter generator setup(5 terminal starter switch), if the wire from the ammeter to the solenoid was faulty/grounding out, could it prevent spark?

Nope. The spark conponents on a solidstate system are are the points and condenser, and solid state(coil)

Check also that the ignition switch isn't grounding it out.

That's what I thought. This is the 3-legged armature. Replaced armature due to a wire coming off. Worked great, then started having intermittent cutting out. Changed points and condenser, thought that solved it. Only to have intermittent cutting out again. Tried a different condenser, pulling ground out to condenser, etc. Still not getting great spark. Pulled the engine, armature is still intact, flywheel sheer key doesn't appear to be out of whack. I'm about ready to blow this thing up!

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
