Fuel Pump

Last nite I decided to see why my 7016 wouldn't stay running. I pulled the carb and cleaned it, I thought it was a stuck float, it wasn't. Next I determined the fuel pump wasn't pumping. In a past post a member mentioned that a pump wasn't needed. I bypassed the pump and lo and behold she runs like a top. The gravity feed works.

Isn't the 7016 a single cylinder Briggs? If so, I don't recall any of them having a fuel pump to begin with? Unless it's a Kohler or repowered, that could be the issue; adding something it never needed to begin with. If it is a fuel pump required engine, it will gravity feed, but only to a certain point. When the tank gets low, you may have issues.
