Kohler Fuel Pump-- Mechanical to Pulse.....

Recommended Posts

LesH

Hi--

I have a lawn tractor with the Kohler model CV15-- a 15 HP Vertical shaft style. It came with the mechanical style fuel pump attached to the block with 2 screws. The pump insides have rotted out and have tears in the rubber making the pump unuseable.

Question-- how do you install/ convert to a pulse style of fuel pump??? I have a lot of those.

(I will change the oil while I am at it since the gas got in the oil).

Thanks!!!

You need a tapped hole into the block for the pulse line. Here's a pic of the hole with plug on a Command CH18:

See if you CV15 has a similar plug somewhere. If not, others have installed a port into the dipstick tube or other location. Once you have the crackcase port, you just run a line (most folks use 1/4" fuel line) to the pulse port on the pump. Find a suitable location for the pump (maybe there is a std location on a CV15) and install the pump. I prefer to have the fuel inlet down and outlet up as on my CH20 install:

(The fuel inlet isn't installed yet.)

.

....Something to consider - if you do not install an OEM

Pump/Location - is to have the pump positioned so that

any oil that may get into the pulse line can drain down

and back out immediately.....Any excess oil in the line

will tend to make the pump action sluggish.....
