Just finished putting the engine back together after having valves done. (Valve guides, resurface vale seats and valve faces - Valve Gap was set at .005 for intake and .013 on exhaust) The engine started fine and ran good for about 5 minutes, it then stuttered and now won't throttle up past about what sounds like 1/3rd to 1/2. When I did shut down, Cylinder 1 (the right side as you are sitting on the tractor) is much hotter than Cylinder 2. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, new plugs.

While eating dinner, it hit me that maybe .020 on the points is not the best setting. I'm going to set the points based on the guidelines in the Kohler manual along with returning the carb settings to normal.

Well, it wasn't the point setting. No manner of adjustment made a difference and after a VERY short amount of running, I pulled the valve covers. Stuck exhaust valve on Cylinder 2. Pulled the engine and back to the machine shop. Luckily, valve wasn't bent and I can see no damage to the tappet or cam shaft.

Valve guides were finished reamed slightly larger and the engine is now purring like, well like a new engine I imagine.

A few tweaks to the carb settings and I can finally mow again.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
