ccooke 0 Posted January 14, 2002 My dad has a 68 model B-110 tractor with a Briggs engine. The engine is locked up and I need to know if someone makes a direct replacement for it.It is 10 HP(I think),Model 243431,Type 0123-01,code 6709181.The rest of the tractor is good and has several pieces of equipment with it. carter 0 Posted January 14, 2002 You might consider repairing that engine. They are worth the effort. Last summer you could still order a factory replacement engine for about $1600 if you are determined to stay original. Briggs was discontinuing them however so they may be all gone now. I rebored my 243431 +.010 over for $90 piston and rings and about $25 for gaskets. I have a friend that bores for free but prices run from $35 to $85 on the open market. Woodydel 0 Posted January 14, 2002 For 1600 you might think about putting in a "worked" small block Chevy for Summit! These small engine prices are crazy. Woody
JimDk 1 Posted January 14, 2002 Do you know if the engine locked up from sitting or was it run out of oil?Sometimes you get lucky with these old cast iron jobs and with the liberal use of penetrating oil around the piston and a gentle tug on the crankshaft every few days they will turn over.I agree with Carter that these engines are worth repairing if possible. Also a good used 243431 from one of the club sponsors or members is often available.Watch the "For Sale"ads on this site or post a "Wanted"ad. Good luck, Jim
