inconsistent spark to points

Recommended Posts

My 7117 was running great till my wife ran it out of gas. Now there is inconsistent spark at the points. Replaced points and condenser but no help? Thinking it may be the coil. Tractor has the original Kohler 17 twin in it. Any ideas?

I would doubt running the tractor out of gas would have anything to do with a possible ignition system issue now. What counts is do we have good blue spark at the plugs? Maybe you,she thought it was run out of gas but really there is an ignition problem? Looking at the normal slight arcing at the ignition points is not a real good indicator of overall health of the system. You'd be better served to clamp on a timing light on the plug wire(s) and look for consistent spark relative to the timing marks on the flywheel.
