cleaning old fuel from fuel lines?

anyone have a solution for getting old syrup like fuel out of metal fuel lines? I tried compressed air with no luck. The fuel line is about 3.5ft long with a few loops/bends in it.

I cannot get any air thru the lines at this time...kind of long to submerge.

Along with soaking as stated above, I've striped a length of 14 or 12 gauge copper romex house wiring and used it as a snake. The copper is flexible enough to turn bends. I use a pair of visegrips to hold the wire close to the gas line opening as I push it in. The mechanical "cleaning" speeds up the task.
