Will the parts from a 27 hp Kohler vertical shaft motor fit on a 25 hp Kohler horizontal shaft motor

My intent is to repair a damaged 25 hp with parts from the good 27 hp

Or in effect change the 27 hp from vertical to Horizontal shaft

Those differences are for vertical and horizontal engines. 25 and 27 HP engines have the same bore and stroke with HP differences determined by carb, cam, and timing. Incidently, 18 through 22 HP Commands have the same stroke as the 25 ands 27's but the bore is smaller (same for all 18 through 22's).

On a side note, I have never understood the price difference between vertical and horizontal shaft twins. Horizontal shafts, for the same HP, cost almost twice as much...

It simply must be supply and demand -- I can't imagine that the different parts for a horizontal shaft are originally THAT much more expensive.

Some Commands have cast iron liners and some do not. The ones with CI liners can be bored. I do not know what can be re-sleeved. You would probably need to check with a machine shop. If I were re-sleeving, I would be inclined to do both.

I was looking at a Legacy with a bad motor

One sleeve was damaged when rod broke

Buddy was going to buy snowblower

And I was going to take tractor

He passed on snowblower

I could have put in my 23 Vanguard

But think I will pass too

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
