Kent 436 Posted January 17, 2002 Sorry I lapsed into what my wife calls "geek-speak" there... I was tired and in a hurry to get out to my barn for a little tractor time. I'll try to be more careful in my use of acronmyns. I guess it could be worse -- I could combine my military acronyms with my computer/web phrases and talk total jibberish.... Woodydel 0 Posted January 18, 2002 OK, Here's a good hint. Tech support guys say this all the time to the caller with the "dumb" questions...Woody
RickS 117 Posted January 18, 2002 RTFM stands for "read the ******* manual" And Woody is right, if most people would read the manual, their questions would be answered. Now if I could remember where I put the manual I would be all set.
sask 0 Posted January 18, 2002 Acronyms have become a (sometimes annoying) standard in writing today. I have reviewed manuscripts and technical submissions that are no more than four pages long, yet have an additional full page that defines all of the acronyms created to "shorten" the document. It takes twice as long to read the thing because I am constantly having to go back and scan the definitions page as I come across yet another new acronym. While common ones like those above are fine, in many cases writers create new acronyms for phrases they only use once or twice in the entire document, and may never use again! Kent 436 Posted January 18, 2002 My favorite Tech Support answer is: "That's Error Code 18 -- the problem is 18" in front of the monitor."
BigSix 0 Posted January 18, 2002 How about ROTFLM*AO. Give up? It means Rolling On The Floor Laughing My * A-- Off. (I apologize if I'm "over the line here, but figured we needed a laugh if that MTD rumor is true.)
powermax_paul 1 Posted January 18, 2002 I always thought "LOL" meant "Lots of Luck". So what does "(o" mean? Paul
