Sunstar Repower

Recommended Posts

My CH20S in my Sunstar is getting tired so time to start looking around and planning ahead....

I saw a prior post about repower candidate Kohler engines, 23 and 25HP. I gathered from the posts that the engine needs the right crankshaft length and diameter of 1 1/8 x 2.79.

So my first question is to the guys that have upgraded to a more powerful engine is what is the manufacturer spec number of the engine you chose that worked successfully? Was the mounting plate or wiring a concern?

Secondly, I found this 27HP at Jacks Small Engine with the proper crankshaft:

Does anyone know why this particular engine is so cheap as compared to other 25-27HP engines? 1768 is a lot of money, but a 20hp is 1500, so why not spend the extra 268?

Thanks for your help,

Huffy, it looks like this Sunstar had a Command in it.

As for the price difference some of that could come from what kind of shrouding it has or if one engine is more common and moves in a higher volume. It doesn't appear that the bigger engine is equipped with the metal style chopper screen. In your case you can most likely transfer it from the blown engine to the new one.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
