JOHNP 0 Posted January 18, 2002 THIS IS ALSO MY FIRST HYD. PURCHASED THIS TO RE-SELL BUT FELL IN LOVE W/IT AND IT'S HERE TO STAY. DIDN'T REALIZE HOW MANY ATTACHMENTS WERE AVAILABLE. WILL LOCATE A DOZER BLADE OR A BELLY BLADE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE THAT WILL BE LEFT WHEN THE BACK HOE/DUMPTRUCK FINISH W/MY LEACH FIELD. THIS SITE IS AWSOME. JUST BY READING POSTS A TON OF MY QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED. I THINK I'LL QUIT WORRING ABOUT THE HYD. NOISE AND JUST KEEP AN EYE OUT . JOHN
Kent 436 Posted January 18, 2002 JohnP, You'll find that front blades are easy to find, but belly blades are rare, and frankly they're overpriced in comparison. Given the opportunity, I'd get the slightly less common and more expensive heavy-duty dozer blade (since you have hydraulic lift) that has five adjustment positions to choose from and you can change them from the seat. The less expensive snow/dozer blade has only three and you must get off and go to the front and manually change it... The HD one does an OK job of smoothing dirt by pulling it backwards -- the less expensive one is too light to do much when you pull it. And, in my experience, it is MUCH easier to get a smooth final surface when pulling instead of pushing. My 2 cents! Glad you're enjoying both your tractor and this site. JOHNP 0 Posted January 18, 2002 THE HEAVIER BLADE DOES MAKE SENSE. I'M SURE I WILL FIND ONE IF I KEEP MY EYES OPEN. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR TIME. P.S. AM ALSO LOOKING VERY SERIOUSLY AT THE JOHNNY BUCKET. JOHN
JOHNP 0 Posted January 18, 2002 Kent, I recently acquired a grader/center/belly blade. I was really surprised when I picked it up. The thing is a full 1/2" THICK. The specs state that, but I guess I never read them close enough. It does a beautiful job. Now I have to make a custom hitch so I can leave it attached to a tractor already equipped with front & rear blades.
SmilinSam 4,245 Posted January 18, 2002 I like the grader blades too, but I was spoiled in that I once had a Wheel Horse grader blade and those tractors you can put down pressure on the blade with the hydraulics instead of your feet like on the Simplicity. I've looked over the situation, but I can't see where one can engineer a power down on the Simplicity.
Al 6 Posted January 18, 2002 John, The earlier tractors had the hydro filter up between the frame. Later they moved it to the left side of the lower gear case. This was a short filter about 2.5 inches tall, a 25 micron filter. In later years the something changed, I don't know if it was something in the charge pump or what but the new tractors had more hydro noise. [It seems to me I remember something about a thicker gerotor in the charge pump, about the time the early Power steering came out.] I believe this is about the time Sunstrand another company became Hydro-gear. Any way the fix for the noise was a different hydro filter It is about 3 1/2 inches tall. It does make a difference. We use the later filter on all side filter applications. I believe the early filter was part# 1671234 and the newer filter is 1709322. A certain amount of noise is normal. Good lucl, Al Eden

JOHNP 0 Posted January 18, 2002 GOOD DAY GENTLEMEN. HAVE A QUESTION THAT PERHAPS SOME-ONE IS ALL READY WITH AN ANSWER. MY 1984 7116H MAKES A NOISE, HYDRAULIC I THINK. IT'S HARD TO EXPLAIN BUT IT REMINDS ME OF WHEN I STAND NEAR A BACKHOE AND THE BUCKET IS IN USE....A WHIRRING, PRESSURE LIKE SOUND. CHECKED THE FLUID AND IT'S RIGHT UP THERE. HAVING USED IT FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR (BLOWING SNOW) I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS JUST A NORMAL OPERATING SOUND. NO LOSS OF POWER OR SPEED. I HAVE TO INSTALL A NEW LEACH FIELD AND WILL WANT TO USE IT WITH A DOZER BLADE TO GET THE YARD BACK IN ORDER. I "THINK" THIS IS A NORMAL HYDRAULIC SOUND BUT WANT SOME-ONE TO CONFIRM SO I DON'T TEAR SOMETHING UP. THANX JOHNP
BradW 0 Posted January 18, 2002 Marty, I removed the bracket from the back of a regular Simplicity 42" blade and remounted it on the front of the blade. Then I modified the blade hitch to attach to the rear drawbar. Just took the tractor apart for painting. I'll post some photos when it's done. All I need is the time to work on it. MPH 12 Posted January 18, 2002 Does you notice the noise all the time, or only when moving, or only when using the lift?
Guest Posted January 18, 2002 It appears you noticed this noise while blowing snow, so I assume it was cold outside. It's normal for the hydro in a 7000 to make a sort of whine or whirring noise when cold. Something to do with the oil getting thicker in the cold, and I know it doesn't seem to go away, even when the tractor warms up. They'll even make this noise hot during the summer if you put a heavy load on them.
JOHNP 0 Posted January 18, 2002 THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY. YES, YOU CAN HEAR IT WHEN NOT UNDER A LOAD BUT ONLY SLIGHTLY. MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN LIFTING OR GOING FROM NEUTRAL TO THE FORWARD OR REVERSE MODE. I TRIED THE MOWER OUT THIS SUMMER AND IT DID THE SAME. I THINK I MIGHT BE WORRIED OVER NOTHING....? JohnN 0 Posted January 18, 2002 I've put together a parts 7117H with a Kohler 16hp and noticed the same thing. I've pushed a fair amount of snow and it still works like a charm. Plus the hydrolift is great once you master it on a gravel driveway. If your driveway is paved your in the clear. Like I said though, I've used my 7117 quite a lot. I've lifted and towed my cubs around, even lifted the front of the B-210 to put a pallet under it for the winter. The noise isn't very loud but is there. This is the first hydro I've owned so I guess it's normal. It's a great tractor and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. John
