Oil in Breather - 3414S

Recommended Posts

Simplicity Baron 3414S with Briggs engine 302431

I am blowing oil through the breather into the carb. So much oil the carb is dripping oil when I shut it down. I get white smoke sometimes when the tractor is on a hill or not level side to side.

I pulled the breather and cleaned it. Reinstalled without the air filter (thinking maybe the filter was clogged creating a vacuum and pulling oil through the breather). No joy. Still lots of oil. I can watch it coming into the carb when it runs.

The oil level is halfway between the bottom of the stick and full, so it in not overfilled.

I did some research and the answers say a) bad breather, b)piston rings or c)head gasket.

This is not an overhead cam, so the head gasket doesn't make sense. How would bad rings cause this problem?

Help me - oh Simplicity gurus.

Thanks.

Roger

Bad compression rings will allow some of the compression pressure into the crankcase causing it to pressurize and push oil mist into the breather tube.Level of oil doesn't make much difference because when engine is running the oil dipper is splashing oil in all directions in the crankcase.....Dave

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
