Bought a Simplicity Yeoman 627 today. The guy told me that the Allis Chalmers tractor that was equivalent to it had a Tecumseh engine. I didn't know Allis used Techumsch engines and cannot find the Allis Chalmers equivalent number can someone tell me the model I am looking for? And if Allis did use Techumsch engines? Thanks

I have two Allis tractors, a T816, about a 1982, and a B206E, about a 1971, both have original Briggs engines. These are both vertical shaft engines, one a 6 hp, one a 16 hp opposed twin.

There may have been Tecumsehs on certain models of snowblowers and on the mini-bikes but not on the tractors. There was no Allis version of the Yeoman.

Simplicity never used Tecumseh engines on on any of the "legacy" small frame vertical singles like for the 616,627, 707, 727, 728, 738 tractors. Both Tecumseh and Briggs were neck & neck with fighting for the market share back in the "day" with standardized motor mounting and crank dimension specs to interchange. So it's not surprising that some P.O. stuck a Tec engine on this tractor, just "because".

I would not consider the Scamp series of units "garden tractors", but more of the period rear engine riding mowers; hence my previous statement holds...

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
