Dick, I got my soapbox out. See my new post "eBay Sniping".

Sniping is kind of like holding your cards until the last possible moment. What happens on eBay is people bid on things up to where a normal price would be and then at the last minute (literally) you'll have at least 2 people that really want it that put in their highest and best offer. Always, one of these "snipers" loses big time and has a regular old hissy fit because they see what it went for and thinks, "Darn, if I'd only gone a little bit higher with my bid that guy/gal would've had to pay more". It works out great for the seller because at the last minute, when he thinks he's going to get a much lower price he actually finds out that he got way more than he thought he would. BTW, Usually in the midst of all this last minute buying both or many of the bidders that are unknowingly in on the "sniping" get an email from eBay saying they've won and are all glad and happy until a few minutes later when they get the dreaded "outbid" notice. You have to remember that when you are placing a bid to always (if you really want it) put in your "highest and best bid" (especially come sniping time) and let the chips fall where they may. Usually (I've found) 2 days after this has happened to you if you look again the same object will show up even closer to home so you don't miss out on much anyway. I've found many, many people do this same type of bidding because they don't want others to have the time to put in a bid higher than them. Only then do they find out that there are many, many other people in the world with more cash than they've got and practiced the same type of bidding war, but won. Always remember this when placing a bid, "offer your highest and best" and you just may end up with it.... I know eBay is not that old but just think, 10 years ago, whoda thunk you could buy exactly what you were looking for from some guy 3000 miles away on any given day. Quite a concept I think.

Sandy, That's the truth. There's not that many "one of a kinds" out there. Just bid what it's WORTH TO YOU and let the chips fall where they may.

Well, there's a little over one day to go on the 101 up for auction on eBay After the reserve was hit (at $600), there was no activity for 4 days. Then "juscubs" took it to $611. I guess "juscubs" will have to change his name if he's the winning bidder. Pool participants had some pretty good guesses on the reserve. How about the final bid? What do you think it will hit? Are the "snipers" waiting?
