PatRarick 1 Posted January 19, 2002 MPH - Are head bolts really 190 ft lbs?? Seems very high. Don't have my Briggs rebuild book with me.
PatRarick 1 Posted January 19, 2002 190 INCH lbs, not FOOT lbs. It is 145 FOOT lbs. for the flywheel nut. Oh well, that's what Easy-outs and Heli-coils are for. As to polarizing the starter-generator, I don't have an answer either. I used to do it on the old generators, but don't know if this was necessary on the starter-generators. If you are having charging problems, an easy test is to start the engine and run at a little over half throttle. Ground the "F" terminal on the starter-generator with a screwdriver and watch the ammeter. In general, if it shows a charge, the voltage regulator is bad. No charge shows that the generator is bad. If you see a shower of sparks and the wires start burning, you have shorted the wrong terminal! Good luck! Pat
