I have found that on the 48" mow deck of a simplicity, if u take the covers off on top of the mow deck, and clean the top up good, it will last a lot longer. Otherwise it will just rust out from the acid from the grass that gets under the deck covers. I took off my covers and left them off.

I agree with cleaning out under the belt guards. Can't condone taking them off and leaving them off. Looks a bit dangerous to me. Brent

Most of my tractors came with out belt guards on the deck. I think it's more of a problem with the older B series since the newer ones have full running boards. Lots of people used machines with out belt guards and most are still around to talk about it. If you do decide to remove the guards BE CAREFUL! and wear a good shoe or boot never sandels. These are my personal opinions. John
