B-series Front Wheel Bearings

Recommended Posts

powermax_paul
Are the front wheel bushings pressed in? I can't seem to get them out. I've been rapping on them with a copper tube and a hammer and they won't budge. I'm ready to drill them out and put bronze aftermarket bushings in. Any Ideas? Paul

Paul - B-10, B-110, etc. have tapered bearings like wheel bearings in cars. They generally fall apart when you take the wheel off of the spindle. Do you have the original wheels on your tractor or is it a B-207 type of machine?? Colin

Thanks Colin, It's a B207 and has solid (cast iron?) bearings. My local hardware store has 7/8 od x 3/4 id flanged bronze bearings. Should I just drill them out to 7/8? They're about 13/16 right now. Paul

If they are the same as the simplicity 700 they do come out with a punch from the back side.I put the old bushings in a lathe and bored them out I put in oilite bushings.works well. Bob

I'm with you Bob, I think I Will bore them out and put in the oillite bushings. I don't have a lathe, but for these low speed tires, I'd think reaming them out with a 7/8 drill bit would be just fine. Paul

I would suggest changing the front wheel bearings over to tapered roller bearings like my Simplicity 725 is. I believe the bearings, inner seal and dust cover are the same as used on the Sovereign.

That would be nice, but there probably isn't enough room. The bushings that are in there, are about 1" OD and 3/4" ID. Maybe I should buy new wheels? They're not that expensive. Paul
