johnb110
The head bolt torque is said to be 140 in/lbs. Being as I only have a foot lbs. torque wrench is it possible to tourque within rangen. Is there a conversion other than dividing by 12 . 11.6 footlbs.doesn't sound right
johnb110
To reply to my own add, it is 190 in/lbs for the head bolts and when you divide that by 12 it's about 16ft/lbs. which sounds a little better. If that's right please let me know. John
Kent
You're correct, John, in dividing by 12. But, a caution -- most torque wrenches that measure in foot pounds aren't accurate enough for inch pounds, especially it the upper end of the scale is something like the common 150 foot pounds. Don't try using one of those, since they can be off by several foot pounds at the lower end of the scale... you could actually be off 50 or more inch pounds on the reading. I have an inexpensive beam-type Craftsman torque wrench that I've had for years (for working on aluminum block VWs, where some of the most common problems are pulled head studs) that has an upper limit of 600 inch pounds -- 50 foot pounds. It is pretty accurate above 120 inch pounds or so....
