Broken axle tube.

Recommended Posts

edlincoln

I bought a big ten parts tractor a couple weeks ago and the axle tube is broken about 1/2" outside of the seal on the right transaxle case. I have already removed both axle flanges and the differential unit, I printed the dif manual from a transaxle repair I found here.

There is some steel sticking up in the cracked area do I just grind that area down to get the right side of the trans off? I removed and separated the trans and bevel gear box already.

When you put it back together, make sure to put a plastic bag over the RH side of the axle tube to cover the differential keyway to protect the axle seal from getting damaged.

Also make sure to note how many spacers go on either side of the axle gear. The manual's diagram is representative only(found the hard way.)
