Auction haul

Had a fine time at an auction Saturday that was dispersing an old Simplicity and Allis Chalmers dealership in Golden, Illinois. The place had been picked over in years prior to the auction but still yielded a few pieces. I had a good day overall visiting with friends old and new. Had a good visit with DaveBsACs and Chris727. It was good to meet Chris, always nice to put a face with the posts!:D

I didn't take any more detailed photos, too busy jawing, looking, and bidding. I did take home a few things.8)

I've been told I need to buy a trailer, wouldn't know why.:D If I did it would eat the tractor fund up for some time and then I couldn't buy like I do. Without a trailer I am limited on hauling capabilities which is not a bad thing, I drag home enough as it is. I haven't yet unloaded, too busy with family this weekend. I bought the two things I was most drawn to, a yellow front counterweight and a 912h roller. And then added in some other stuff that I couldn't resist saving. There's the front of a system 7010, a 900 series frame and dash, a 5008 without a hood, and lots of various RBT and newer sheet metal. In all that mess is a few parts I've needed to get a couple projects rolling so I'm happy. Oh, I also piled quite a few manuals in the cab. I'll post some pictures of the unload later in the week. There is some late model sheet metal I don't recognize and need some help.

Nice pics Rich. I sent you a PM before noticing this post. Had a blast. I think I got so worn out, I almost swore off going to anymore auctions. The literature was cheap. I should have bought more.... I have lots of pics. Will post them tomorrow.

Thanks guys, this ain't my first rodeo when it comes to packing, I have an eye for fitting I guess. This load wasn't as bad as the one late last summer.:o

There were lots of deals. I should have bought more books.

The 3012 was nice looking. Was not running. Brought around $275.

The 185 had been an unfinished project they drug out of the shop. It brought $500. Did not include rear wheels. The B with a loader frame sold for around $800, non-running.

This interesting filing shelf was used to store the parts catalogs at one time. I have been through over 40 Allis dealers but have never seen this anywhere else.

If I had room around here I would have loved to have purchased the counters. They went cheap.

This was an odd sale. At some point in history the equipment dealer moved out of the stone block front portion of the building and operated out of the rear only. The front of the building housed another business until more recently. The AG dealer quit handling new equipment shortly after the early '90s AGCO takeover. From that point on they performed both automotive and farm machinery repair. It closed around 2009 or 2010. At that point the rear of the building was suffering from major roof and header problems. Many of the contents remained including lots of trash and even food items left since that time. They had you pull out anything you wanted auctioned separate and then auctioned all the remaining contents in sections. This was the dealership where I found my large New Idea posters a couple years ago.

It's sad how those little places are going away. Sure it wasn't new and looking like a cookie cutter store, but the character of that old building can't be duplicated. Within 50 miles of me in the last year, 3 dealers closed - and all had been Simplicity at one time or another. The closures happened for various reasons, but only one has really been replaced by another Simplicity dealer. It's amazing what can be left in place like that. All 3 auctions were good for me!

Thanks for posting the additional pics Chris! I finally got part of the haul unloaded tonight. I had the Ariens $2.50 push mower running even! Maybe I can get the rest off the truck and the manuals out of the cab tomorrow night. I gotta get that stuff squeezed in between the rest of life.;)
