5212.5 deck belt

Recommended Posts

garyb

I have a 5212.5 with a 42" deck. the belt that was on it finally broke all of it is there so I measured it and came up with 118" the manual calls for a 120" belt, my guess is the one that finally broke was not the correct one?

any input from the vast knowledge on this site

I would go with a 118" if that is what was on the deck last. There is a little adjustment rod on the deck where you can adjust the throw on the engagement mechanism that has the idler pulley mounted to it..this assures that the tension comes off the idler pulley and disengages the blades from spinning.

As long as your replacing the belt, check to be sure the idler pulley bearing is free spinning and that nothing is binding on the idler pulley swing arm. The idler pulley is the flat pulley that the backside of the v belt rides on and pulls the slack out of the belt when you go to engage the blades.id="size1">
