It's a mystery

A poorly running walk-behind leaf blower has risen back up the to-do list. Hard to start; won't pickup any RPMs; after warming up will go at about 1/2 throttle, at best. Changed the oil this weekend (along with every other small engine I own^) got it running, and while running I shut the exhaust deflector all the way so I could roll it thru a narrow door. I had expected the extra work load to kill the enimic engine, so imagine my surprise when it throttled up to full speed!OO I open the outlet and it drops RPMs, close it it speeds up, etc. It's like having an invisible throttle cable attached to the deflector. Any guesses? Thanx, Dave

With the deflector the air has no place to go so it just winds up spinning round and round in the blower housing.

If you suspect a dirty carb go to your local Yamaha dealer. The have a product call "Ring Free". The name may have changed. A small bottle used to be $2.00. Mix that and Sea Foam to directions for each product and it does a pretty good job of cleaning carbs as the engine runs.
