Sandy 0 Posted January 26, 2002 I think I saw this posting last night and it got waylaid or something. How much land are you going to be mowing? These tractors aren't cheap but you won't be disappointed either. A good investment for your grandkids!!! Seriously, they've got the best mower decks made and the parts aren't a problem for years to come. Most of these "old tractor" guys in here can give you that endorsement. I was down lookng at one myself and decided to stick with a used one because I didn't have the money. Good quality tractor in my opinion. I'm sure others will attest too. MPH 12 Posted January 26, 2002 Nearest dealer is about 2200 miles so I can't look at a Baron to give you my thoughts on it. The rear discharge I think is a neg feature. Seems they really windrow if you don't have a catcher on. Seems there were some complaints about them on the site last summer, you might type Baron in the search and see what you see. Not much help, but the newest Simplicity I've seen is a 67..MPH
powermax_paul 1 Posted January 26, 2002 If I were going to buy a new tractor, it would definitely be a Simplicity. I bought a new JD in 1986 and from day-one its Kawasaki engine would take all of the battery to start it and sometimes then some. As far as the MTD makes are concerned (Cub Cadet, Yardman, etc.) well, I think you get what you pay for. Paul
Al 6 Posted January 27, 2002 Hi, If it were me, I would buy a Broadmore and a turbo, I think you would like it beter and you have more options. The Broadmore is a heck of a tractor and our best seller. I am hesitant on these dedicated rear baggers. Good luck, Al
Guest Posted March 11, 2002 I grew up on the simplicity they are the greatest. my last was a 7119 hydro with hydrolic 48" deck. Best tractor I ever owned. I want to buy a Baron BUT!!!hear is what I have heard. It does not produce that simplicity striping cut, also has trouble with heavy grass and clogging chute(I was told by one dealer he welded a 3" rectangular plate under deck to solve this), it does not mulch very well(with chute blocked). Also was told this by simplicity tech. has problems with deck hight above 2.5" clogging, and it is a big job disassembling rear bagger. no rear attachments work(tiller). Simplicity has offered some dealers stuck with this tracter a replacement deck (the broadmoore deck will interchange but not bagger)has the same frame. Even with the problems I still want one (at the right price) mechanically its a solid tractor from what I have heard. is their any one out there that can confirm this????
