Hotwire7434 0 Posted June 28, 2015 I have finished a repower of my 916H with a HF 22hp engine. It was successful in replacing the old Kohler 16 single cylinder. Had some problems with vibration at first, had a little trouble getting the proper lining up of drive shaft with 22hp. I raised the engine up 3/4 inch off frame. The got a couple of round stock aluminum 3 3/4" dia. had it cut 1' thick. Bought 2 pieces, was able to find a local supplier called metal by the foot. $6 per piece. First one I roughly with my limited tools drilled and tapped the hub from the Kohler with only 3 holes out of 4. And counter sunk the holes for the 22hp crankshaft. Worked ok for a couple times mowing. However had more vibration than I wanted, and worried about wearing out bearings in motor. So I asked a friend to machine an adapter out of the other blank I had. The following photos show the adapter and his great machining skills. Hopefully these photos show my progress.
hurleyii 227 Posted June 28, 2015 Photos have to be resized and the memory of the size must be 100kb or so
Hotwire7434 0 Posted June 28, 2015 Must be doing something wrong. I resized them to 94 kb followed the directions. Resized again. Hope this works.
maxwood 596 Posted June 29, 2015 Hello, are you using the rubber donut style adapter or the later aluminum type? I really like the predator engine on my 7117 . I call it a 7122 . Great adapter! accuracy is important when it is rotating at 3000 rpm Thanks Ken in Mi
Hotwire7434 0 Posted June 29, 2015 No Ken I have the Kohler adapter made of cast iron about half the size of your aluminum one. When my friend machined the aluminum blank it reduced the thickness by the amount of the lip that goes in the adapter for the drive shaft. So I had to shim up a little with some washers to mate up with the drive shaft. The guy is a great craftsman. He used a laser point to find the radius for the predator holes and the metal adaptor for the drive shaft. Then drilled, tapped and used a end mill machine to maintain alignment. He called me today said a neighbor had a Cub Cadet that had blown engine want to know if I wanted another repower project. I said yes, and great price, FREE we like free. Now that I figured out the sizing of photos may do a series on this one? Thinking using the 13hp HF, if I need another adapter may beg him again.

maxwood 596 Posted July 6, 2015 Hello, here are some photos of my adapter, I used the cast iron short one, and the rubber donut. Thanks Ken in Mi
Hotwire7434 0 Posted July 6, 2015 Looks just like the one I used. The short cast iron one did not have a rubber piece though. Mine had metal spacers, short tubes that the longer bolts went through to the adaptor. Thanks for the reply I enjoy the posts and used your drawing to have my friend machine it for me. Great help couldn't have done it with out the detailed drawing. Thanks Tom
