SmilinSam 4,240 Posted January 31, 2002 I’m trying to buy a Simplicity tractor. I’ve been corresponding with the female seller via email. The tractor is located in New York City. Here’s the problem. The woman is a Muslim and wears a veil. New York has a law, enacted in 1845, that prohibits the wearing of masks in public. The police have threatened to enforce that law during the WEF conference. Even after the conference, the law will still be in effect. The woman doesn’t want to break the law by leaving her home. She is willing to give me the key AFTER I pay her. I don’t want to pay BEFORE I see the tractor. The woman wants to sell the tractor to raise money to challenge the law on religious grounds. I really want this tractor. What should I do? Please HELP ! kuhner 0 Posted January 31, 2002 Dutch, the Today show this morning had the police chief of NYC on talking about the very same law. The way I understand it is three or more people wearing masks gathering together is against the law. So unless you take a friend and both wear a mask your a couple under the limit :) Going to make it tough on the Halloween parties!
SteveP 0 Posted January 31, 2002 And only if you are in a demonstration. Maybe she doesn't have her facts straight. IMHO if you can't demonstrate while showing your face you are a COWARD.
Nubian 3 Posted February 1, 2002 Big fish granted, but WHY is it not possible for a good ole Simplicity tractor to have a home in my hometown. It's not all concrete you know :)
BigSix 0 Posted February 1, 2002 Nubian: I hear ya, in fact, until I moved last month, I lived on a dirt road, only about 20 miles north of NYC, in Nyack, NY. I didn't mean to imply it's "impossible" to find a tractor in NYC, just uncommon enough to merit further scrutiny, in light of that particular author's sense of humor, shall we say? PatRarick 1 Posted February 1, 2002 The title alone was a big enough clue for me. Why in Sam Hill would Dutch, of all people, need help in buying a Simplicity? Pat
BigSix 0 Posted February 1, 2002 This setup has "Dutch" written all over it! Herb, you should write SAT-type exams, b/c this question could have come from the "Logic Games" portion of the LSAT exam. You hooked me good on the tractor fire story, but I saw this one coming as soon as, well...as soon as I saw "Dutch" in the heading. In fact, Ron's point is well taken, although I didn't question that part of it (tractor in NYC) when I read it. MPH gets the real credit here, for being first and having the "minerals" to say "Call." Herb, I'd say "we're on to ya, buddy" but I wouldn't want to encourage you.... ;-) Good one! Peter
