fitchnhunt
Hey all. I have a snowblower attachment for my 7119 but have seen some pictures of people with blades mounted on the front of their tractors. Any idea on a what I should look for or what fits what models? I'm keeping an eye on local classifieds but haven't found any yet. Not really sure how they attach if all the same or different styles that work or don't work. I have a bigger longer paved driveway and I'm thinking with a light coating of snow the blade may clean it better and quicker than the blower. Besides free, what is an average good price on one? Thanks!
oldsarge
Stick with the blower^
RickS
The blade attaches to the tractor at the same place the blower attaches to the tractor. Depending on how deep the snow is a blade can be faster than the blower. But at the same time you need to clear a larger area since you need room to put the snow. Several members will use two tractors one with a plow and with a blower. They use the plow first to gather the snow and then the blower to clear it. The advantages of the blower is you only need to clear the areas you use since no snow banks will be created. Deep snow can still be cleared. If you have two tractors both attachments are great. If you only have one attachment I think a blower would be a better choice. But that does depend on the amount of snow you receive and how quickly it melts before the next snow fall. Rick....... TomSchmit
Ben - I am down the road from you in the Milwaukee area. I like my snow plow better than a blower, but it is not as good for deep snow. You need to plow when the snow gets to 8 inches or so, and that means multiple plow sessions in a big snowfall. The plows are commonly available here in the area ... https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/grd/5181631976.html This one has the ability to be turned without leaving the seat. The mounting is very simple, just note that your tractor needs the longer mounting frame instead of the shorter one used on older FDT's ("food dragging tractors" no running boards as are on yours). His asking prices of $225 is not a great price, but it is not extreme either. If you find something you are interested in, post a picture of the plow and mount and club members will easily be able to tell if it will fit properly. This one nearer to you, in Belgium, from the same tractor as yours https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/grd/5134374068.html It does not have the remote angle feature, is lighter (easier to lift) and should be cheaper, commonly selling for $100. fitchnhunt
Thanks for the replies. Tom, you know all too well what kind of weather we can get around here. The inch or 2 dustings I figure would be easier to push than blow. Anything more than that then I'm sure the blower will work better. I sent the Belgium guy a message on Craigslist this afternoon. Hoping to hear back from him soon if he has one yet. Thanks!
fitchnhunt
Found one local...not much info. Think it would fit? http://sheboygan.craigslist.org/for/5172590765.html
TomSchmit
I dob't recognize the hitch, but it is clearly not the type that is designed for your tractor. Tom
fitchnhunt
Thx Tom. I will keep looking for one then.
fitchnhunt
Found another blade. The guy isn't sure what from but thinks a simplicity. Will try and get a link to listing as I can't figure out how to get pics on here from my iPad.
fitchnhunt
http://sheboygan.craigslist.org/grd/5207413282.html Does it look like it would fit my sovereign? Thanks!
Talntedmrgreen
Yes, that blade will fit, but there i another type preferred for snow that is 4" wider, has adjustable angle from the seat, and a spring trip feature for when to catch something beneath the snow. Those 3 position dozers are very inexpensive though and work better in the dirt. I hreatly prefer a blade and we get boat loads of snow here. Its much faster and fets the surface cleaner. I put the blower on if a snowfall is about 10" or more, or to have fun and putch the banks back. I could see how if a guy was only permitted one attachment, a blower would be the safer choice. phillobbezoo
I agree with Josh blade cleans better and is faster. My blower for the powermax is a single stage and only gets used once or twice a year to push back piles and wind rows. I would go with a blade if it were me
fitchnhunt
Thanks for the replies! Any idea on a fair value for the blade? I have a blower for my tractor already but want to try a blade for the lighter snowfall this year.
TomSchmit
The plain plow+mount should go for $100 to $150. I have linked above to the larger 46" deluxe blade that Josh is referring to, asking price $225. Let us know what you get! Tom
rich_kildow
With the 5 position angle blade, $150-$250 is fair. Being able to change that angle from the seat is pretty important if you want to use it for snow. I have both, and will soon have them on separate tractors, and I do find that the blade has it's uses. If it's less than 6" or so, the blade works great as long as you have a place to put it and don't have to move it to far of a distance. The blower is nice to just get it out of the way. I have both and keep the blower on most of the time, especially since I've motorized the chute and can sit in my cab with coffee. I find it is just enough work to switch over to the plow that I don't do it very often. I'm sure when I have both on at once that I will use both more interchangeably. fitchnhunt
He's asking 100 obo for it which doesn't seem like a bad price....just wants it gone. I just don't know how it is supposed to mount. No experience with a blade.

fitchnhunt
Bought the blade this morning. Seemed to be in pretty decent condition. He was asking 100 but I ended up getting it for 80. Thinking I got a decent deal. Thanks for all the help!
fishnwiz
I use a blade almost exclusively here in my neck of the woods and LOVE IT! As long as you stay on top of the snow and don't let it get too deep you will be ok. I have the blade you can change the angle on and do push the snow back in relief lanes off of my driveway so the snow does not build up over the top of the blade alongside the drive. I also have a small paddle type blower I use for cleanup. Good luck with your blade.
fitchnhunt
Sorry.....forgot to mention that along with the blade he gave me some sort of bracket also. It is a larger metal bracket that looks like it might help mount the blade to the tractor. I can't figure out how to get pictures on here otherwise I would post a pic. I think I can mount the blade without the bracket but not sure. I did find an illustration online in a simplicity snow blade manual. I think it was letter J in the pic. Tacey
My climate results in a lot of wet snow in the 2 to 4 inch range. I use a dozer blade. I've had 2 throwers over the years and sold them both. Just my experience.
