AC 710 6 speed

The 710 six speed is a great tractor. I bought mine new in 1979 and it is running strong today. It is the best purchase I ever made. It is probably worth $500-600. Steve

I went to a Simplicity/Gravely dealer on saturday and in the yard in rough shape (rusty) was an AC 710 with a 6 speed transmision. Is this a good tractor? It had a bevel gear box with a similar rear end as my Simp 700/725. I do not think it was a shuttle trans (or is it possible to be a shuttle?) What would be a good price to offer? I am not sure if it runs or not.

From what I've heard, it should be a very good tractor. The "six-speed" is obtained by a pretty simple setup with dual belts and dual pulleys on the bevel gear box and transmission. Shifting from high to low range (or vice versa) just determines which set of pulleys and belt is actually driving the tractor. Like the best of the Simplicity products, it's a relatively simple design made with good testing and high quality. I won't venture to estimate a price -- just know that this was not originally the entry-level model (that was a 710 with standard 3-speed) but only one step up in terms of pricing/features...

Marty, Just like my Sunstrand conversion, if you took everything from the BGB back, it should work (with minor tweaking) on the B-112, B-210 and B-212 tractors but not on the B-110 or B-10 era tractors -- they have a 4" shorter wheelbase and think you'd have a real task trying to get the seat pan to fit.
