Brent_Baumer 5 Posted February 4, 2002 Problem with the governor?????? Do the rpms go way down when just sitting there and engaging the bushhog?
JordB110 0 Posted February 5, 2002 Sounds like it could be govenor, though I don't know why it would do that in forward and not reverse. Does the engine race when going down hill? Does it have enough power to cut anything with bush hog? Jordan
powermax_paul 1 Posted February 5, 2002 The last time I used my 4041 to level out the rough grade at an addition project, I had some problems with the engine loading up and slowing down. I also had a lot of black smoke under heavy load. I know the carb is dirty and needs cleaning, but one thing I haven't checked yet is the crankcase breather. I'm told that these Onan's won't run for #$&^% if the breather filter is clogged. Paul
JeffG 0 Posted February 5, 2002 There's just so many things that it could be. For example: carburetion (carb. main jet adjustment, float height, dirt, choke stuck, etc.), timing adjustment, pitted points, improper points gap, bad condenser, fouled plug(s), bad plug wires, clogged crankcase breather, governor adjustment or missing parts, bad hydrostat pump, engine valve adjustment, very tired engine with low compression and no power, parking brake stuck on (nah, probably not an issue on a PowerMax - LOL), and on and on. Bottom line: Seller should have a good running machine in order to make the sale - unless it's priced like a parts tractor. Did I mention that I've got a really nice PowerMax for sale, and some very steep hills that I guarantee you that the tractor will pull (while brush hogging) without missing a beat. Come on out to Ohio and give it a test run. You won't be disappointed! Jeff
