JeffG 0 Posted February 6, 2002 I have replaced the spring, because the incorrect spring was there. If you suspect that the spring is the incorrect one, I would replace it. There is an adjustment for the spring tension and also throttle linkage length. You have to strike the delicate balance between the two adjustments in order for it to work perfectly. I'd say you probably just need to do a little fine tuning. I had a problem similar to your description one time, and it turned out to be that the float was taking on gasoline. The soldered seam around the middle of the float had a pinhole in it. Just a note, anytime a problem (like you described) develops "all of a sudden"; the first place I always go is the points. I always have an extra set on hand - if that tells you anything. Jeff
lmoret 0 Posted February 6, 2002 9020 Under load moving snow the govener goes full on and chokes out the engine. If you throtle back it runs ok again.I have read that a bad governer spring will do that. Has anyone replaced that spring and solved this problem?
SmilinSam 4,245 Posted February 7, 2002 Could be as simple as checking and resetting the float level. If you have never had it under this heavy of load before, it may have been set a little rich.
Byam 0 Posted February 7, 2002 I had the same problem with my 4041. I even put a new carb on it without curing the problem. Turns out the Condenser was bad. It would start (hard) and run OK at slow speed but always balked when the governer took over. I replaced the points and still no joy. Finally I went to the Auto Store and bought a generic Chevrolet condenser. Worked like a charm!
