keyed ignition switch allis 620

Hopefully a simple question here. My ignition switch is defunct on an allis 620. Is there any difference between 5 prong starter switches (meaning can I use any 5 prong) or does this tractor require a specific switch from jacks small engines?

thanks

It does require a switch built for it.

Other switches may have different functions for each pin.

In other words, not all switches work the same.

You could probably use any 5 pin ignition switch it is just a matter of whether it fits in the space you need and through the hole. You have to compare the pinout of the switch to see if the wiring would be the same or if the wires would have to move to different positions on the new switch. That being said, if you have to move the wires to different pin positions you complicate troubleshooting in the future since it will no longer match up with the diagram in the service manual. In this case an original type switch is best or at the very least one with the same pinout.

If you decide to go with a non-original type and can find the pinout information for both the original and the new switch we can tell you how the wires would connect on the new switch. Try and get that info prior to purchasing the switch though just in case there are any unusual differences we can identify first.
