powermax_paul 1 Posted February 9, 2002 Mowerman, Thanks for the help but I think that the Simplicity setup is a little different in that there are two different sheave diameters. Because my bearings are bad, I took a screwdriver and dug out one of the bearing shields. I found that the 5/8" shaft has grooves in it that act as raceways for the ball bearing balls. From a maintenance/replacement standpoint, I feel this is unacceptable. So, to do it right, I should replace the shaft with a straight shaft, and the sheave with a double ball bearing sheave with replaceable bearings. This is really the only right way to do it. powermax_paul 1 Posted February 9, 2002 There's a double idler sheave between the engine and transmission. Is this sheave/shaft assembly one assembled piece or are the bearings replaceable? I've been trying to separate the shaft, bearings, and sheaves, and all I've accomplished is bending/warping the sheaves. Paul
Sandy_Lake_Imp 2 Posted February 10, 2002 It is a shaft/bearing asy, similar to a water pump set up. Drop us a line for availability. Bill, from home
JCS 0 Posted February 11, 2002 The bearing is NLA from Simplicity. I went to a bearing house and they matched it up to a water pump bearing. there was one shaft and two bearings which i had to buy and then cut in half to get the part i needed. you can but the other one for 1/2 of what I paid or I can give you the cross reference nu,mbner.
