AC B-1 Engine

I have a AC B1 with a bad engine and being the engine is difficult to find what are most using for a suitable replacement for the 19D Briggs? I would love to find a beat up donor tractor but being on the west coast it is almost impossible.

Hi, welcome. You'll get more response in the Talking Tractors discussions, the area most people go to. As well, if you do a search on " engine replacement" or switch under the search tab you should find lot of references. While I haven't done one lots of others have. The footprint of many of the larger engines are similar and have been used.

Thank you. I am still getting a feel for this site. I have a 1960 Allis Chalmers B1 Loader with a bad engine. I just bought a 1961 Simplicity tractor buy itself (no implements) which I hope the parts are mostly compatible.

The Briggs 10 to 16 HP cast iron single cylinders (24xxxx??, 30xxxx, 32xxxx) fit in the B-110's. They were used in many things and are somewhat available.

I'm not sure if the oil sump/footprint is larger than the 19D, but someone here will know.

Any of the Briggs used in the series will fit but the 12hp will need more creativity since the counterwieght housing(synchro balance) is on the front of the engine and hits the grille. The 9hp(23D) and 10hp are direct fits. The 16hp is fitable if you have the counterwieghts on the back(blower side). That said, the 9 and 10hp will be much more common than the others.

I have a 16hp cast iron Briggs in my B12. its 326430 IIRC. Any cast iron Briggs 10hp and up should work fine on that. You may just have to swap flywheels between your old motor and new

The original poster is asking about a B-1 with a Briggs model 19D. The 19D has smaller physical dimensions and a lower crankshaft centerline than the 9 to 16hp engines you guys are mentioning. They are not a direct swap. The 9hp 23D up to the 16hp "32xxx" engines are all mostly interchangeable with each other as they share the same crankshaft centerline and same size oil pan base. Differences primarily exist in the oil fill locations and electrical systems. The B-1 and 700/725 tractors had different locations for the engine mounting bolts. From what I had learned on this site years ago, I believe the frame would need to be notched or hammered out somewhat for the engine to fit as the blower cover is so much larger on the 9 to 16 hp engines. When they introduced the B-10 it had a different frame from the B-1 in order to accommodate the larger 9 hp engine.

Chris is right. They will not just fit. You have to remove the shims the 19 & 19D use. Then cut a notch out of the belly of the frame like the landlords had from the factory for the blower housing.

I would look for another 19 or 19D.

Wow thanks everyone and yes Casino Jim hooked me up. A little pricey at $400 for a 1961 Simplicity 725 tractor only. But I need it. Thank you Jim you still saved me a bundle. Now are these tractors interchangeable? B1/725 They look identical. It would be great to use more than the engine.

Other than paint and sheet metal, they are the same.

Grills are slightly different, front of the hood is a little different, and fender pan is wider on one than the other.
