Coleman 0 Posted December 3, 2015 Are these kits still available? I have a 19D that the spark plug was left out (not by me) and the cylinder walls became pitted from rust. I could hone it out but I would need new rings and such to complete the engine. So before it is junked, is it salvageable? Hate to see original stuff go in the trash when it is so hard to find. Chris727 2,015 Posted December 3, 2015 It might need to be bored out rather than just honed in order to maintain proper clyinder taper. There never were rebuild kits for these engines. You had to purchase the parts separately. Some parts are shared with the larger 23d Model and are still available while some are NLA but new old stock parts do show up on eBay frequently. Chris727 2,015 Posted December 3, 2015 Hopefully your crankshaft is OK. They are pretty hard to find. A machine shop may be able to repair it if there is a problem.
isetta 50 Posted December 4, 2015 You might be pleasantly surprise at how well a simple honing could clean up the cylinder. It's not expensive and worth trying before you give up on it. I honed a BMW motorcycle engine that sat out in the rain with air intakes off, engine stuck from rust. It honed up beautifully and covered many miles..... Oh and didn't replace the rings either Fill the cylinder with pb blaster or atf and acetone or mix of your choice to loosen it all up. This is also inexpensive and worth trying before scrapping a motor worthy of a rescue mission. Good luck with it
Coleman 0 Posted December 19, 2015 I have the engine submerged in motor oil. Thank you for your advise and it will be used.
