Briggs Vanguard Starter Question

The starter in my wife's Cub Cadet (yea I know)stripped the plastic drive gear that rides on the plastic bendix helix.

The old one seemed bone dry.

Put the drive kit on last night but.......

Should the new one be lubed? and with what?

If you lube them, they will gum up and not push back to the rest position. If everything is dry and clean I have had some success with powdered graphite. A couple small squirts will do the trick.

I was a little worried about gumming up, I might have some lock graphite around.
