valve lapping tool

Recommended Posts

I've got 5 engines I will be digging into in the next several months and thought I'd better add to my tool collection. I'm wondering what you guys would recommend for a valve lapping tool. I haven't lapped a valve in 30+ years since my younger days messing around with old VW engines. I still have the small green can of compound (fine & course) and my wooden stick with the rubber cup on the end, but the cup is too big and I found it hard to lap with. I found this on line:

Any thoughts? Thanx, Dave

the tool you show does work well, but make sure it fits the smaller valves of our engines. I bought a stick with a big cup on one end and a small on the other and it works fine. You will need to be sure the face of the valve that you drive on is nice and clean, I usually use a wire brush to clean them up.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
