SmilinSam 4,244 Posted February 12, 2002 Wondering if parts availability is as bad on the 4040-9020 sickle mowers as it is on the mowers for the smaller garden tractors? It looks like the cutter sections are a standard size available at the farm store, how about the rock guards? and the drive components- particularly the high wear pieces?? Anyone know? BillC 0 Posted February 12, 2002 The smaller AC/Simplicity sicklebars used 2" sickle sections and rockguards, which I belive are no longer available because I have been unable to find any. Standard farm implement sickle sections and rockgaurds are 3". There are (2) types of 3" rockguards. A model 700, typically painted green, are used with a 7/16" cutter bar, and a model 800, typically painted blue, used with 1/2" cutter bars. There are many different styles of sickle sections. I have found the double cutting style to work very good because of the reduced cutting forces.
Guest Posted February 12, 2002 Hi Sam, I e-mailed you the sketch on the blades & guardes. Blades are 3" wide, 3-5/16" tall, 1-3/16" from bottom to point where they start to angle in. Rivets are 11/16" up from bottom and on 2" centers. Guards are 6-3/8" from point to center of bolt. Bolt is 7/16" dia. Throw is 3". Are these considered "standard" & readily available? I received an e-mail back from you but it was just a copy of what I sent you. Dan
SmilinSam 4,244 Posted February 13, 2002 Dan, I'll send a better e-mail as I hit some wrong keys to send that last one. I'm just trying to determine whether the thing is worth all the cost including the addition of shipping which will make it kinda cashy. Sam
Guest Posted February 13, 2002 If these are "standards", Quality Farm & Fleet here in Ohio & I think in a couple of other states are going out of business. Might be able to pick up a lifetime supply pretty cheap!
