tej
The local adds lists a 5211 and 5212 for $695 each. What is a 5211 or 5212, are these GTs, LTs, or LMs. Also whats a 7018 Simplicity? Tim
tej
Tim I don't know what the 5211 and 5212 are but the 7018 Simplicity is the same tractor as all 7000 series with an 18hp OHV single cylinder Kohler engine in it. This is a rare engine based off from the K341 (16hp single flat head engine), with overhead valves. MS

tej
The 18 single's a nightmare? Whew, this was timely. I was just about to look at a 7018. It's a little 'spensive at $1650, but claims to be in excellent shape and with an electric lift, a 42" snowblower and 42" deck. Too bad, since it's the closest one to me. What's up with the 18? Just rare enough to make parts hard to find? Greg
tej
The asking price listed for this 7018 is $1000. Doesn't say if it has a deck or what shape it's in. Tim
tej
I might have been a bit harsh on the 18 hp Kohler. Yes it's quite rare eng. and they had probs. with the valve train, esp. pushrods coming loose and exiting the valve cover! The only 1 I ever had seemed to run fine though, but I have a bud that still has 1 and he loves his so go figure! dlc
Fred
These do have some problems. Keep them oiled, cooled, and clean and they produce very good power. Overheat them, and the head is GONE! The only thing I can add is that while I'm not sure why parts were not available for the fellow you mentioned, Kohler does supply replacement heads for these ... at about $400 a pop! Of course, for a worthwhile tractor, the flathead 16 is a 'drop-in'. Fred
tej
One of the guys in our tractor pulling club has a 7018. The engine has lots of power. The only problem that I heard about was a broken rocker arm. He had to have one made at a machine shop as the parts were not available. Otherwise loves the engine.
