Tacey 0 Posted February 13, 2002 I came to this club in search of information about an old tractor I had just bought, a Simplicity Broadmoor II Model 6110, last October. Simplicity calls it a 'small frame garden tractor'. It's a good runner, mows my lawn beautifully, & the snow-thrower I just refurbished works great. I am delighted with it. However, I've gotten in the habit of reading these 'discussions' (even chimed-in a few times), and I have developed the sense that I'm really not having the 'SimpletrACtors' experience until I own a tractor from the Simplicity 725/Landlord/Allis Chalmers B-10 era. Don't be surprised if you see my 6110 in the E-Bay listings...lol Tacey

JonetteP 0 Posted February 13, 2002 Hi Michael, we have had the very same experience as you. We have been a simplicity dealer since the mid 50's. We often have people bring in a two year old box store thing and not understand why it is shot. Then, they get really mad when they look at a used soveriegn from 1200.00 up to 4500.00 and say they got a deal when they purchased there unit because it is 18 hp. The idea the general public does not understand is that I would put any of our used unit against there new ones. We have a b-1 allis with a grader blade for grading the driveway and pulling trailers. Most of the box store customers look at it as an old pos. They do not understand that if we hooked the tractors back to back, it would be a sad day for them. As for as quality of cutting, it is not even a contest. I am sure you have seen a box store item with the corner of the deck digging into the ground. If you put these units on a farm, I will give about a month before they are out of alignment. In conclusion, after all of my rambling, they do not make them like they used to. But, simplicity has done a good job to conserve the quality of cut and performance of there machines in this throw away society. I wish they would bring back the soveriegn with some of the new ohv-ohc engines. You get what you pay for!
Woodydel 0 Posted February 14, 2002 FWIW- To get an equivalent garden tractor today would cost about 8-10 grand. . . and then they would be harder to service. But there is an awful lot of satisfaction to be gained from watching a 30 yr. old machine plow, cultivate mow, blow/throw snow, grade, blade, etc. and do it so well. So, it's up to us to preserve them, use them, and appreciate them.
Kent 436 Posted February 14, 2002 Dutch, will just 70HP do? If so, just show them "Simple Sue Alice" with the Subaru engine... BTW, well said Dtrain, that's what we're all about![A href='http://www.simpletractors.com/gallery/simple_sue_alice.htm'][img src='http://www.simpletractors.com/images/gallery_images/simple_sue_alice_small.jpg'][/a]
geezer 0 Posted February 14, 2002 hello all i've got a '70 sovereign 3212H and some of my friends have told me that their store bought lawn(mower)tractors won't go near the stuff that the sovereign will handle and if i'm ready to sell they'd give top buck for it . i'll never sell it and the saying THEY DON'T MAKE'M LIKE THEY USED TO is just what they say to me . and you'll never see them like this ever again. Dutch 4 Posted February 14, 2002 Matthew, Comparing your 3212H to a riding lawn mower is like comparing leather work boots to cardboard slippers. Your friends just don't want to spend the bucks for a new garden tractor, and probably don't want to tinker with a 30 year old machine either. If your friends are sincere, have them check this out. They may very well say they can get an 80hp mower with 2' wide tires for a fraction of that price.
globalmkts 0 Posted March 24, 2002 My Big Ten has been in continuous use since 1966. I've used blower, mower deck, sno-thrower, and snow plow. I've replaced the starter/generator belt once, and other belts as needed. I've removed the head three or four times to clean out the carbon, and had to re-thread the head once because of a stripped plug. I replaced the axle seals (one of which has been slightly leaking for a few years. Oh yes...replaced the original muffler last year too, with a more modern Briggs round one...not the old "can type". And I've used it on acres of land. Not bad 'eh?
