BLT 718 Posted March 2, 2016 I have inherited the above. The engine , Briggs twin 16, is free and feels like good compression both sides. The starter is stuck and needs to be removed. Can I remove it by taking off the tins or does the engine need to be lifted off? I think I know the answer, but tossing out the question anyway. Who knows, I might have missed a step. Thank for your interest and as a fondly missed past member, Roy would say. "Carry on".
Chris727 2,016 Posted March 2, 2016 Just remove the blower shroud and the left side tins, and you should be able to get a wrench in there to remove the starter.
JohnMBerst 36 Posted March 3, 2016 As noted, remove the top shroud, and left side tin. It's a bit tight, but you can wrench the two mounting bolts under the flywheel. After it is out, take one bolt and grind a bit off the end, .060, and will help in fitting back under the far mount when you reinstall. If you need a hand let me know. Have a bit of practice on the 6516 and 6216.... Also under the flywheel, there is a domed area, which helps to remove bolts and starter. Might have the turn and center over the starter mounting area. Good luck.
steve-wis 637 Posted March 3, 2016 Agree with John and Chris. I think you will like the T816, Bob. Mine is my primary tractor for heavier jobs, like tilling, snow blowing, dirt pushing, etc. I really like the Vari-drive on mine. Good luck with it! BLT 718 Posted March 30, 2016 Got it running and it ended up with my neighbor. He has done me favors and was hurting for one. It still needs a good cleaning , but the engine really sounds good. I have seven tractors in my back yard and that's enough.
