B10 gets stuck in 2nd

I've used the bent screw driver method to put shift forks in proper position many times and now have a broken axle shaft tube,so case needs to be split.What actually wears out causing shift fork problem so it can be corrected when I go in?Any suggestions greatly welcome.

Items R & S are detent ball & springs that are supposed to ride on shafts L & M . They are supposed to line in neutral so you use either fork , item Q. Sometimes the spring weakens and doesn't hold the fork and that will block you from any shifting. That what I found a long time ago on a similar transmission.

Disassembled transmission found a snap ring missing on a shift shaft possibly allowing excessive fork travel along with weak springs hopefully an easy repair.
