AcFordHawk 0 Posted March 5, 2016 Had a bearing go bad in the gearbox on my 52" snowblower for the 620. Got the bearing replaced but have not found what type of lubricant the gearbox uses. It looks like grease but viscosity lets it flow like oil. The old lube is full of metal particles from the bearing and some gear wear. Any thoughts or ideas? Rigger9020 13 Posted March 5, 2016 I recently had same question when I completely overhauled and repainted my 52" blower. What I did was to use a grease with moly additive. But I drilled out the case on both sides between the middle seals and inner bearings to install grease zerks. That way I can easily PM the gearbox. Good Luck. AcFordHawk 0 Posted March 5, 2016 Sounds like a good idea. Otherwise don't think the bearings would be getting sufficiently lubed which I think may have been part of the reason for the bearing failure.
914-allis 0 Posted March 6, 2016 I had the same problem with my speed reduction gearbox on my 47 inch two stage snowthrower and ended up using 00 grease. This grease is a thick liquid. It cost $4.99 at tractor supply.
DanD 9 Posted March 6, 2016 Probably would be ok with this! LOL http://www.sepw.com/oil-lubricants/simplicity/worm-gear-oil-1704636sm/#PhotoSwipe1457277380792
AcFordHawk 0 Posted March 7, 2016 Checked a few of the stores yesterday and no luck. Nearest supply on line is the TSC store in Mason City - 90 miles north. Have a Snapper dealer in town and will check with them.
