Simplicity 9020 PTO Bearing Question

Recommended Posts

I have two disassembled Simplicity 9020 front PTOs that need replacement bearings. There are two types of bearings used in my units. Type 2 has an inner race that is thicker than the outer; Type 1 has both races the same thickness. I assembled both units without the bearings installed and with the clutch faces touching. I cannot find a difference between the two. One of these units is from a parts tractor so I cannot compare the crankshaft length. This causes me to ask a few questions: Since probably very few of us are the original owners of these machines, how do we know if the bearings have been replaced with the incorrect type? Or is that not possible? Both units have a four-digit number stenciled on the flange behind the pulley. Could this somehow reference the bearing type? Was the inner race width increased in order to create more contact surface, or is it for spacing purposes? Do the rear PTOs also use two different bearing types? The Simplicity Repair Manual gives instructions for adjusting the PTO brake drum on Manufacturing #1690230 and 1690283 to 0.010 inch. Would I use the same spec. on my #1690072? Any information or personal past experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ben

We had a discussion about this bearing a while back you can check it out on posting # 3378 the original bearing is a 6207 which is a special the rear pto uses the same bearing it sounds as if maybe someone has replaced it with a different one maybe you could post the bearing #it maybe an alternet for these are to find bearings.I have a rear pto assembly apart at this time and found that there is another special bearing that I can not find a listing for the bearing # is NDH Z993LL088 62mmX40mmX15mm it is in the bearing retainer p/n 176048
