1st 700 made?

Hi All!

I was reading MikeH's thread on his new Weedcutter and how it is the 3rd one made.

His has the serial number 1003, does this mean that my 700, with a serial number of 8001, means it is the first made?

Anyone know how they coded serial numbers? Maybe the first of the 4 digits is the number of years in production...in other words, 1 is 1st production year, 8 would be the 7th production year...

Just spitballing here...I don't know how long the 700 series was in production.

Some of the parts books have serial number breaks while keeping the same product number. My best guess is that every new product number started at 1001 and stopped the day they started a new product number.

Whether it is a early model or not, I still like it. It has the original bolt together deck, so I mow with it periodically, but mostly just to drive around. I blew snow with it once, did fairly well for how wet the snow was.
